La Janda

Over the past few months we have visited La Janda regularly and we've had some very good days. We always visit La Janda in the hope of catching good views of the big raptors around the area at the moment, like the Spanish Imperial Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle and the Golden Eagle.

So far we have had luck in seeing plenty of Juvenile Bonelli's Eagles with some photos below.

We also managed to see what we thought was a Lesser Spotted Eagle. After seeing some photos and comments on facebook from birders around the area it looks like this bird is a hybrid between a Lesser Spotted Eagle and Greater Spotted Eagle. It has been tracked from Lithuania and is now wintering in La Janda. It was our first time observing this bird and we managed to get some good photos too.

Whilst waiting for the big eagles theres always a good chance to observe some interesting smaller birds. One bird we hadn't seen around La Janda for some time was the Bluethroat. On our last trip we managed to spot one and spent a good hour observing it and taking photos.

There were big flocks of sparrows feeding and we were caught by surprise when in amongst them we spotted a Trumpeter Finch. This little bird is known to join flocks of sparrows, and we were very happy to add it to our list.

A trip to La Janda isn't complete without good views of the hundreds of wintering Common Cranes.

Here are some more photos of other birds seen in the area.
