Dipper

Cinclus cinclus

The dipper is unmistakeable; a stout, brown bird with dazzling white throat and breast.

It perches on rocks and boulders, bobbing and curtseying, with its short tail slightly cocked.

This bird nests along fast flowing rivers, mostly in hilly areas.

In winter they are thinly distributed along rivers, streams and forest bricks, but is a hardy species and they will remain in areas where rivers are half frozen.

Their flight pattern is low, quite straight and fast .

Well it was fantastic for us to have been able to observe this beautiful and very energetic bird for quite a few hours.

We hope you all enjoy the photos. Please check out our Bird Nerds 2 Photo Gallery for more photographs of the Dipper.
