La Janda

Our first outing after the summer break was down to La Janda
and it was very enjoyable one .

Europa point is Gibraltar's southernmost point, and we have spent many hours there bird
watching, be it for the autum migration or the spring migration and of course for our
seabird watching.

Winds play a big part in all of this, if the winds aren't right then we tend to travel into Spain for our birding.

The preferred winds would be of a south/southwesterly direction for best results some seabirds can be observed with easterly winds but they would not be the best of days.

With all the rocky sea front at the foreshore, waders can be observed feeding at low tides. We have seen Whimbrels, Common sandpiper, Purple sandpiper, Sanderlings, Turnstones, Oystercatcher, and although not waders we have also seen Kingfisher, Cormorants, Shags, and Razorbill, fishing close by.
